ESC Congress 2024 — Dr Lucia Mazzolai (Lausanne University Hospital, CH) joins us to discuss key highlights from the ESC Peripheral Arterial Disease 2024 guidelines.

The new guidelines emphasise the need for holistic evaluation of peripheral arterial and aortic diseases, with diagnosis and treatment involving multidisciplinary teams and care plans considered in centres with experience of the disease. They stress the importance of cardiovascular prevention, and underline that women often present with atypical or asymptomatic PAAD, suggesting a need for special attention during screening.

The key recommendations in the new guidelines highlight the chronic nature of PAAD, the importance of screening and the necessity of comprehensive treatment strategies, as well as increased awareness that this is a chronic disease requiring lifetime follow-up.

Interview Questions:
1. What are the unmet needs of patients with PAD in 2024?
2. What is new in the guidelines?
3. Is there any area that needs more attention?
4. What are some of the challenges and opportunities with the implementation of these recommendations?

Recorded on-site at ESC Congress 2024, London.
