Faculty Biographies
Athanasios Diamantopoulos
Consultant interventional radiologist
Dr Athanasios Diamantopoulos is a consultant interventional radiologist at Guy's and St Thomas'. He qualified in 2004 from the medical school of University of Patras. In 2013, Athanasios was awarded a PhD from the University of Patras in experimental prevention of contrast induced nephropathy, an active research interest.
Athanasios has been trained in all aspects of general and interventional radiology at Patra's University Hospital. In 2012, he completed an interventional radiology fellowship at Guy's and St Thomas'.
Following completion of his training he was appointed consultant interventional radiologist at Guy's and St Thomas'. His clinical experience includes all aspects of basic and advanced interventional radiology procedures with a special focus in peripheral endovascular procedures, arteriovenous access procedures, venous and peadiatric interventions.

Leigh Ann O'Banion
Assistant Professor Of Surgery
Dr Leigh Ann O’Banion, is an Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Surgery, at the University of California San Francisco Fresno, UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research.
Leigh Ann received her undergraduate degree in Biologic Sciences from Louisiana State University and her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed her general surgery residency at UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program, Fresno, California. Subsequently, she completed her Vascular Fellowship at UCSF. Leigh Ann is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General and Vascular Surgery. She is also a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI)

Dr Maria Antonella Ruffino is on the editorial board for Vascular and Endovascular Review Journal. Maria Antonella Ruffino, MD, EBIR, is a Vascular Interventional Radiologist, Head of the Department of Interventional Radiology at the Institute of Imaging of Southern Switzerland, in the Regional Hospital of Lugano. She earned her medical degree from University of Torino Medical School and completed residency in Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology at University of Torino Medical School and a second level university master in Interventional Neuroradiology from Università Vita – Salute, San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy.

Ash Patel
Consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon
Ashish Patel qualified from The Royal Free and University College Medical School in 2004. He has been a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and a clinical senior lecturer with the school of cardiovascular medicine and sciences at King's College London since 2018.
His British Heart Foundation funded PhD at King's College London was awarded in 2012. He completed his higher surgical training with the London deanery in general and vascular surgery as a clinical academic lecturer at King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in 2018. During this time, he was awarded the British Journal of Surgery Prize at the Vascular Society for Great Britain and Ireland meeting in 2015 and a Global Star and Rising Star Award at the Charing Cross International Symposium in 2018. He also received an Academy of Medical Sciences Grant and the Circulation Foundation's George Davies Visionary Award.

Becky Sandford
Consultant vascular surgeon
Dr Becky Sandford has worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital as a consultant since 2016, with practice incorporating all aspects of vascular and endovascular surgery. Her particular interests are emergency and ambulatory non-elective care, having established the Emergency Vascular Clinic for urgent triage and treatment of vascular patients without the need for unnecessary hospital stays. She continues to enjoy research links with the team in Malawi in addition to projects based closer to home.
Becky undertook specialist vascular fellowships during her senior registrar training; the first at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham focussing on lower limb bypass, and focussing on all aspects of vascular and endovascular work
