Faculty Biographies
Marie-Josee Van Rijn
MD, PhD, Vascular Surgeon - Epidemiologist
Dr Van Rijn finished writing and defending her thesis Dissecting the genetics of stroke in 2007. After that she has done research in the field of both aortic and venous disease with publications in peer-reviewed journals and has written several book chapters on these subjects. Dr Van Rijn organizes the conference Intoveins, which is held every other year in Rotterdam. She is the leading researcher in multiple ongoing studies at her department. Dr Van Rijn is part of the editorial board of The European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Review. Dr Van Rijn was a member of the writing committee of the updated ESVS guidelines on chronic venous disease which was published in January 2022 and is the co-author and co-editor of the Dutch textbook Phlebology.

Lukla Biasi
Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon
Dr Lukla Biasi is an experienced vascular and endovascular surgeon with a dedicated commitment to the sub-specialties of lower limb revascularisation and carotid surgery.
Lukla Biasi graduated with distinguished honours from the University of Bologna, Italy; following a research fellowship at St Georges’ Vascular Institute in London, he completed the specialist training at the University Hospital of Parma, Italy, where he was appointed Consultant Vascular Surgeon in 2009.
Lukla moved to the UK in 2014 for a clinical fellowship on complex lower limb revascularisation at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London.
Lukla took up his consultant vascular appointment at Guy's and St Thomas’ NHS Trust in 2016. He is currently the lead for Lower Limb Revascularisation, fore-fronting cutting edge endovascular treatments. He has a specialist interest in complex wound management, digital health literacy and telemedicine.

Bryan Fisher
Vascular and endovascular specialist
Dr Bryan Fisher is a vascular and endovascular specialist at The Surgical Clinic in Nashville, TN. After completing his general surgery residency at Ohio State, he did his fellowship for vascular surgery at Vanderbilt University. His vascular specialty includes arteries, veins and lymphatics – the vessels that carry blood away from the heart and towards the heart. What’s most exciting Bryan is the advancement in vascular/endovascular surgery that now allows surgeons to treat patients from further away without open surgery so the patient gets home sooner (within 1-2 days post surgery).

Dr Vipul Khetarpaul is a vascular surgeon in Saint Louis, Missouri and is affiliated with Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He received his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College Manipal and has been in practice between 11-20 years.
Ash Patel
Consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon
Ashish Patel qualified from The Royal Free and University College Medical School in 2004. He has been a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and a clinical senior lecturer with the school of cardiovascular medicine and sciences at King's College London since 2018.
His British Heart Foundation funded PhD at King's College London was awarded in 2012. He completed his higher surgical training with the London deanery in general and vascular surgery as a clinical academic lecturer at King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in 2018. During this time, he was awarded the British Journal of Surgery Prize at the Vascular Society for Great Britain and Ireland meeting in 2015 and a Global Star and Rising Star Award at the Charing Cross International Symposium in 2018. He also received an Academy of Medical Sciences Grant and the Circulation Foundation's George Davies Visionary Award.

Becky Sandford
Consultant vascular surgeon
Dr Becky Sandford has worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital as a consultant since 2016, with practice incorporating all aspects of vascular and endovascular surgery. Her particular interests are emergency and ambulatory non-elective care, having established the Emergency Vascular Clinic for urgent triage and treatment of vascular patients without the need for unnecessary hospital stays. She continues to enjoy research links with the team in Malawi in addition to projects based closer to home.
Becky undertook specialist vascular fellowships during her senior registrar training; the first at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham focussing on lower limb bypass, and focussing on all aspects of vascular and endovascular work

Dr Narayanan Thulasidasan is a consultant interventional radiologist at at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK. Narayanan has authored or co-authored several articles published in leading peer-reviewed journals, has lectured widely, and has served as a speaker at several leading international vascular events.

Cardiovascular Surgeon
Dr Gregory Stanley is a vascular surgeon in Charlotte, North Carolina and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health-University City. He received his medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Joe and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and has been in practice between 11-20 years.
